
City of Lauderdale By The Sea
Lauderdale By The Sea is located on a barrier island that is 7 feet above sea level. The 1.5 square mile town is between the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Intracoastal Waterway to the west, and just north of the City of Fort Lauderdale.
Primarily a residential and a vacation resort community of condominiums, apartments, hotels and quaint motels, Lauderdale By The Sea has 6,300 full time residents and approximately 11,350 during the peak season of winter months. The sunny and clean oceanfront beaches are popular with tourists. The town's valued natural resource is the coral reefs just 100 yards off the beach which are rich with colorful marine life.
Recognized as the "Shore Diving Capital of Florida", divers can be seen entering the ocean for exploration. Another popular spot with anglers and tourists is the Anglin's Pier, just one of four piers in Broward County. Lauderdale By The Sea is also the final resting place for an 18th century ship, the SS Copenhagen and designated an underwater archaeological preserve.
